Many have tried to express the creation of the world through music. The most famous example is Haydn’s oratorio The Creation, but numerous smaller instrumental works have also been composed on this theme.
On this evening, János Pálúr, organist of the Fasor Reformed Church in Budapest, takes the biblical story of Creation in its narrower sense as his point of departure, letting his reflections unfold on the organ. However, the work is not a fully pre-composed piece planned down to the last note—it is an improvisation. This means that the organ of St. Stephen’s Basilica and the atmosphere of the moment will also shape the final form of the music, inspiring the organist as he plays. It is, in the truest sense, an act of creation.
Be there as it comes to life!
