This is what the contemporary newspaper, the Pesti Hírlap wrote about him: "As soon as he took the conductor's baton in his hands, the orchestra, the singers, the entire stage apparatus, all at once transformed into a wax-like, flammable material: and he ruled over them with a princely sovereignty." He was the first composer to discover the importance of self-promotion. His works had a much wider resonance with his presence when he conducted or rehearsed them. And this person was none other than Richard Strauss, whose E-flat major Horn Concerto No. 2 will also be performed at the Szabolcs Symphony Orchestra's concert in Nyíregyháza on 18 January, together with two Beethoven compositions.
Beethoven: Coriolan Overture, Op. 62
R. Strauss: Horn Concerto No.2
